Breaking the glass ceilingβ¦
To most parents in rural Kisii, Kenya - prioritizing male education is often seen as a better long-term allocation of resources, because social factors will inevitably relegate girls to cooking, cleaning, and premature marriage. In order to achieve gender equality, this cultural narrative must change.
Renda will serve 80 girls upon opening, with hopes of eventually becoming a boarding school. The Kisii community has been so united and instrumental in seeing the school become a reality - building thousands of bricks by hand, digging trenches, and helping construct the building, all so their girls have a safe and beautiful place to learn.
Over the last year, we have watched Renda evolve from a dream - to a plan - to reality and we are nearly at the finish line. Due to inflation and the rise of transfer fees, there is a need to update our budget and Grand Opening timeline, although we continue to move forward with stocking the school with supplies and building the school library through donations from around the globe.
When Renda opens its doors, the girls in Kisii will be given opportunities that will change their lives forever.
